Our Work
Every year EQDG assembles local artists to paint Pride-themed artworks in the windows of businesses in downtown Downers Grove. These artworks are on display for the entire month of June for residents and visitors to appreciate.
EQDG is proud to financially support a Drop-In Center for LGBTQ+ youth in Downers Grove. This center is part of and managed by Youth Outlook and offers a safe, supportive, and affirming service for LGBTQ+ youth ages 12 to 20 at no cost. Some members of EQDG also volunteer at this Drop-In Center.
Through the Transformative Justice Law Project, EQDG supports transgender and non-binary individuals in Downers Grove and neighboring communities in covering the costs of changing their names.
In 2023, EQDG developed a questionnaire to explore both positive and negative experiences encountered daily by Downers Grove’s LGBTQ+ residents and visitors.
Legacy Wall
In June 2023, EQDG hosted the Legacy Walk at the Downers Grove Public Library.

The Legacy Wall features LGBTQ people throughout history, from virtually every walk of life, who have contributed in over 20 distinct fields. The content is international and multicultural, and has been substantially vetted and sourced. This wonderfully positive and inspiring exhibit tells the stories behind such figures as Social Justice pioneer Jane Addams; Civil Rights organizer Bayard Rustin; British mathematician Alan Turing; U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Jordan; Astronaut Sally Ride; Renaissance artist and inventor Leonard DaVinci; Transgender icons Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson; Mexican Artist Frida Kahlo; and Fr. Mychal Judge (the “Saint of 9/11”) – over 125 digitally interactive “mini-biographies” in all.
